Toyota Community Scholars Scholarship - Open to seniors with an outstanding academic record (3.0), a US citizen or permanent resident, effective leadership skills, and has a well-documented record of community service within and outside the school setting. PBHS will be able to nominate one student. Attach a 1-2 page essay about your volunteer activities and how they have benefited you. If you would like to be considered, you should pick up an application in the Guidance Office. PBHS deadline is November 17, 2006.

The Ayn Rand Institute is sponsoring the 22nd annual essay on Ayn Rand’s Novel The Fountainhead for juniors and seniors. Students will have to select one of the three topics to write the essay. The essays are judged on both style and content. Judges will look for writing that is clear, articulate and logically organized. Winning essays must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of philosophic meaning of The Fountainhead. Essay must be postmarked or submitted online by April 25, 2007. The forms for the PSAT Test have arrived. Juniors and sophomores who are enrolled in strong academic classes should take the test. This is a national scholarship competition test for juniors. Sophomores take the test for practice. The test is formatted on the SAT College Board entrance exams. The test day is Saturday, October 21, at 8:00 a.m. The fee is $14. When you pay you will receive a study guide and a sample test for practice. This is the only time the PSAT will be given.
ATTENTION Sophomores:

Each ear the National Association of Secondary Principals and the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminars offer the opportunity for high school sophomores to participate in a 3-day leadership program. All sophomores are eligible. If you want to learn to think critically, enhance your leadership skills and want to be a contributor to PBHS and your community, complete an application found in the Guidance Office. Write a 75-150 word essay on “The most rewarding and challenging aspect of being a leader in your school and community”. An interview will be held with the applicants. The PBHS deadline is November 14, 2006.
